Thursday March 13, 2008
They might be considered classic games in Japan, but to the rest of the world DoReMi Fantasy: Milon's DokiDoki Adventure and Puyo Puyo 2: Tsuu are brand new titles. Premiering today on the Wii Virtual Console’s Wii Shop Channel, these two classic console games were big hits, but never reached beyond the shores of Japan. One of the highlights of the Wii Virtual Console is that it not only allows you to download classic games from your past, but it also lets you experience titles you never had the chance to play before. You'll find them in the Imports section.
- DoReMi Fantasy: Milon's DokiDoki Adventure – Original Release: 03/22/1996, Platform: Super Nintendo – Sequel to the NES classic Milon's Secret Castle; little Milon, armed only with his bubble shooter, travels through a fairy tale land to rescue his kidnapped friend Alis from the evil wizard Amon. Publisher’s Hudson Entertainment didn’t bother translating any of the game text into English, but it comes with an electronic manual that will explain what you need to do.
- Puyo Puyo 2: Tsuu – Original Release: 03/22/1996, Platform: SEGA Genesis – The hugly popular sequel to the competitive falling block puzzle game Puyo Puyo, like most games of this style you must crate color chains from the falling shapes, called Puyos, while competing against the game or a friend. Once you’ve cleared a chain it drops a filler into your opponent’s playing field, blocking them from completing a chain. PP2T premiered at Arcades in Japan and quickly became the most popular coin-op title of the time and has been ported to numerous systems since, most recently as part of the Sega Ages collection. Besides this premiere on the Wii Virtual Console, the only version released outside of Japan was for the NeoGeo Pocket under the name Puyo Pop.
