In 2008 the biggest convention focused exclusively on classic video games hit a major road block. The Classic Gaming Expo got bumped form their regular location at The Riviera hotel in Las Vegas, forcing GCE to cancel. The retro fans who run the expo assured everyone that this was simply a bump in the road and they would be back in 2009. We'll, it's now August and their website and Yahoo Group haven't received an update, message or post in two years.
Concerned that this might be it for CGE and all of its retro gaming wonder I started searching any info I could find on the show. That's when I came across their Myspace page (yep, I was just as surprised anyone still uses Myspace). While the content on the page is all about the (canceled) 2008 GCE and they haven't responded to any questions about the promised 2009 expo, in tiny letters at the very top of the page is their personal quote...
"We'll be back... Las Vegas, August 2010!" .
So it looks like there is still life yet for good 'ole CGE, even though they have a tough time letting anyone know about it.
Be sure to clear out your schedule with plans to head to Sin City next year, but don't order those non-refundable airline tickets just yet. Keep coming back for more updates on the show as they surface.
