Top Gun Video Games of the '90s - The Need for FMV and Game Boy Speed

Top Gun Fire At WillIn part 1 of our look at classic Top Gun video games, we visited the 8-bit titles based on the classic Tony Scott action-drama flick, but once the '90s hit two phenomena were taking the gamer business by storm, each on opposite ends of the spectrum, Game Boy and CD-ROMs.

Throughout the '90s Top Gun games continued to release, making sure they were hitting the most popular trends in the video game business including Full Motion Video featuring live action actors such as James Tolkan, reprising his role from the original film. Alas most of these ended up landing in the same combat flight sim rut the franchise established itself with.

Strangely, the one entry to break free from the flight slim confides was an isometric action shooter for the Game Boy Color.
